“Tapaile khusee bhaneko ke ho? Ani kun kurale khusee banauncha?”
“What is happiness to you? What things make you happy?”
I walked over a month though Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Lamjung, Manang, Mustang, and Myagdi districts of Nepal, asking people I met along the way this question.
Nepal is a good place for walking since there are endless trails through the mountains. But these trails are not empty. They pass through villages. They are always in use. They are a good place for starting conversations.
“This Thing Called Happiness” is a collection of thoughts on happiness from the people of these regions. It is a simple look into contemporary Nepal and the people who live in it, yet its theme is universal.
